I am delighted to take on the editorship of European Cardiology Review. We have excellent articles in this issue of European Cardiology Review, all reviewing important topics. Amongst these, the review by Robert Eckel looks into the emerging role of PCSK9 inhibitors in preventive cardiology. Velislav Batchvarov meticulously dissects issues related to diagnosis and risk stratification in Brugada syndrome, a topic of major clinical relevance at present. Alexandre Persu discusses the role of renal denervation after the results of SYMPLICITY HTN-3 whilst Ian Burwash’s article tells us about echocardiographic evaluation of aortic stenosis.

Current heart failure guidelines have raised some controversy and this issue features an article from Gregg Fonarow, on “Gaps in the Heart Failure Guidelines”. I’m delighted that European Cardiology Review will also offer its readers excellent articles by Gregoire Wuerzner - ‘Hypertension in Chronic Kidney Disease’- and Robert Yeh - ‘The Management of STEMI’, all of which will prove to be of great interest to clinical cardiologists given their practical importance.

Authoritative reviews from Michael Gold on heart failure issues and Anand Rohatgi and Laurence Sperling on practical use of statins and management of familial hypercholesterolemia, respectively, complete the table of contents of this excellent issue of European Cardiology Review.

The issue also includes a sponsored satellite symposium on a topic of utmost clinical importance i.e. ‘Practical Implementation of the 2012 ESC Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines’ - which is relevant for the patient.

I hope you will find this issue enjoyable and useful for your daily clinical practice.
